The 2nd Annual MFSM Teach-In 2019: Moving Forward will include participation from Commissioner Daniella Levine Cava, Debris Free Oceans’ Saira Fida, Miami Beach Sustainability Manager Elizabeth Wheaton, University of Miami Sustainability Manager Teddy L’Houtellier, Food and Water Watch’s Salome Garcia, CLEO Institute’s Caroline Lewis, Abess Center Director Gina Maranto, City of Coral Gables Attorney Miriam Ramos, environmental activist Luis Rodriguez, environmental activist Nancy Metayer, and Miami Waterkeeper.
Together with the HOPE Center at the University of Miami School of Law, organizers hope to have attendees walk away with the seeds of a petition or workable policy they can support and defend on the path towards change. In this spirit, last year they held a panel on public health research as it relates to gun violence and this year, they will have a community group gathering petition signatures for a Florida constitutional amendment to ban assault weapons. Let us see what this year’s Teach-In will inspire! Join us for a day of advocacy and education.
