2018 Annual Celebration & Leadership Circle Inductions

Join us on October 23rd, at the Sacred Space in Miami, for our 2018 Annual Celebration and Leadership Circle Induction.

This has been a big year for the CLEO Institute. We have launched several new programs and initiatives, and collaborated on many exciting projects, in an effort to educate the public about climate change impacts and solutions.  This event will be an opportunity to celebrate our work and our tireless efforts to create meaningful partnerships and work with stakeholders from different sectors and backgrounds. We will also take a moment to highlight our partners that have gone above and beyond, during our Leadership Circle Induction.

CLEO is proud to announce this year's keynote speaker will be Paul Hawken, one of the environmental movement’s leading voices. He is also the editor of Drawdown—The Most Comprehensive Plan Ever Proposed to Reverse Global Warming.

This will be an unforgettable evening, with 2 special raffles:

  • Aura airline tickets to New York and Colorado from Zed Aerospace, a new luxury, carbon-neutral airline launching in Miami in 2019.

  • A 5 night stay at the new Margaritaville in Costa Rica, compliments of Driftwood Acquisitions & Development .

We will also have live Latin jazz music by the renowned flutist, Ernesto Fernandez. Complimentary cocktails and wine will be served, accompanied by a delicious low-carbon menu.

This event is CLEO's biggest fundraiser for the year. All proceeds will help fund our 2019 Programs that include:

  • Community Outreach Trainings to our undeserved communities

  • Empowering Resilient Women & Girls workshop

  • CLEO Teachers Network

  • CLEO Climate Speakers Network

  • Mayors Round-tables

  • CLEO Community Climate Trainings focused on HOA’s, faith based groups, and schools

This year CLEO is proud to introduces the Circle of Change Awards. The Circle of Change Awards was developed to recognize individuals, organizations and companies that are taking climate action and implementing solutions in our community.

This year we will be honoring these recipients at our annual celebration:

  • Paul Hawken for his book Drawdown – Writer and editor of the most comprehensive book ever written to reverse global warming. Project Drawdown is a unique coalition of researchers, policy makers, business leaders, and activists who researched, assembled, and modeled the best available information on solutions to global warming. The goal is to describe the beneficial financial, social and environmental impact of existing solutions that can be scaled over the next thirty years. This book not only shows the path to a sustainable future, but proves there is hope to the most challenging crisis of our lifetime.

  • The Miami Herald, WLRN, South Florida Sun-Sentinel, and Palm Beach Post for The Invading Sea – This first-of-its-kind collaboration has reshaped the way media reports on climate change. In addition to helping educate the public on the realities of climate change and how it is impacting our community, it also highlights what our elected officials are doing. With all the misinformation that is currently out there, this collaboration is not only welcomed by The CLEO Institute and the science community, but we consider it a vital part of building climate literacy and climate action in the community.

  • Saltwater Brewery Company for their Eco 6-Pack Rings for Sea Turtles – The microbrewery saw a problem and invented an ingenious solution. This revolutionary product is biodegradable, and if it ends up in the ocean it turns into food for sea turtles. Plastic is made from fossil fuels, and is a product of the oil and gas industry. By eliminating the plastic rings, Saltwater Brewery is providing a solution that lowers their carbon footprint. This small local business has shown the beverage industry how a circular economy approach to problems can put us on a path towards a more sustainable future.

CLEO will also be recognizing people who have gone above and beyond to help mitigate climate change by inducting them into CLEO's prestigious Leadership Circle. This years inductees are:

  • Albert Gomez

  • Joanna Lombard

  • Nancy Metayer

  • Bereatha Howard

  • Susan Windmiller

  • Simon Rose

Thank you for supporting CLEO and for helping us build climate literacy in the community.  Together, through education, we are helping people advocate for their community, their children’s future, and the planet.
