Empowering Resilient Women field trip to Cerasee Farm
On Saturday, June 1, CLEO and four other women from the Empowering Resilient Women program joined Anita and Roger from Urban Green Works to visit their urban farm in Liberty City known as Cerasee Farm. Roger initially gave us a tour of the main garden, showing us the bee boxes and the vegetable beds where they grow kale, arugula and other greens, sweet potato, and so much more. Most of these vegetables are destined for the weekend farmers market that takes place at the Legion Park.
Following the first tour, Anita and Roger took us across the street to the herbal and medicinal garden where we learned about native weeds, and other medicinal plants and fruits often used in alternative medicine. Participants got to sample many different fruits and herbs such as cerasee, wild cherries, passion fruit and more.
