Miami Youth Climate Strike
On Friday, March 15, the CLEO Institute sponsored the Miami Youth Climate Strike that took place in front of Miami Beach City Hall. More than 50 attendees participated, and many wore green in solidarity.
After an introduction from Caroline Lewis, CLEO’s founder, Delaney Reynolds, founder of the Sink or Swim Project, opened the speakers segment with a passionate appeal that expressed the urgency of climate change action. Subsequent speeches covered the effects of climate change on South Florida’s environment, inspirational quotes from Greta Thunberg, barriers to change, climate statistics, social initiatives, public policies and a lack of climate education in schools.
Several high schools were represented including Cushman High School, Miami Beach Senior High, Cypress Bay High School, Palmer Trinity School and Miami Country Day. Many of the students were interviewed by local press.
Before closing the event, the CLEO Institute awarded a prize to the most creative sign.
